Guitar Heroes

Motivation! Is important! I wouldn't be playing the guitar if it weren't for these inspirations.

Florante Aguilar. A Filipino classical guitarist. His current baby is The Harana Kings, an ongoing project preserving the Filipino tradition of harana and kundiman with the help of a few remaining practitioners from all around the country. A documentary film of his search for haranistas was shown in the 2012 Cinemalaya.

M. Velarde, Jr. - Ikaw

LA Guitar Academy. AKA Sexy Fingers Mystery Man! Channel from the faculty of the Los Angeles Guitar Academy. All-classical repertoire. Great angle for those who are interested to pick up tabs and finger techniques through the screen.

N. Rimsky-Korsakov - The Flight of the Bumblebee

Michael Dadap. Filipino guitarist, currently based in New York. He's an advocate of Visayan folk music, a running theme in some of the videos of him on YouTube.

Dandansoy (Ilonggo) and Pobreng Alindahaw (T. Villaflor & S. Suarez)

Pasigenyo. My favorite YouTube OPM guitarist. Aside from popular pop songs, he also plays a few kundiman pieces. There are video tutorials available in his channel. Otherwise, just fall in love with the guy :)

C. De Guzman - Maalaala Mo Kaya (arr. Florante Aguilar)

Per-Olov Kindgren. Clear and clean tones. I go to his channel for finger positions and standard phrasing. I love listening to this guy; he also composes his own music. Deym, you MUST check his Beatles collection!

The Beatles - Hey Jude (arr. Per-Olov Kindgren)

Rodrigo y Gabriela. Pretty intense guitar picking/strumming/everything from this duo! I don't know whom I like more, Rodrigo or Gabriela. But I would really like to learn Gabriela's style. Homaygaaah just so amazing!

Rodrigo y Gabriela - 11:11
(Notes on 11:11: Serious bending action from Rodrigo! And yes, I've tried the glass thing.)

Sungha Jung. This kid is craaaazy! I got hooked when he was just a wee boy who looked too small for his guitar :3 Now he's all grown up <sniffs> Watch the videos uploaded in 2012 and see him mature before your eyes!

Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know (arr. Sungha Jung for ukulele)
